In this rock n roll fable, two friends stumble across the world's last surviving vampires. Offered the chance to live forever, one man is seduced while the other barely escapes with his life, setting in motion an even greater fight for survival. At the crossroads of humanity and immortality, lies...THE CURE
NY1 - "an inspired rock musical"
Backstage - "contemporary and catchy"
Theatermania - "the right combination of romance, conflict, humor and drama"
Talkin Broadway - "sterling, rock-lined music that scales the heights of electric engagement...powerful, searing writing of the kind that's in short supply"
Songs are mix of excerpts recorded live at Le Bar Bat reading*
and studio demo recordings**. Excerpts from the reading
contain some spoken dialog and narration.
The Creative Team
Mark Weiser Author
Mark Weiser is a schizophrenic songwriter, with one foot in the pop world and the other in musical theatre. If he had a third leg, not only would he be a valuable circus performer, but that leg would be in film scoring. This current project, THE CURE, combines all three loves. His film scores include FRANCESCA PAIGE (Sundance Film Festival), IT AIN'T LOVE (Cinemax), A ROSE BY ANY OTHER NAME and many more. Among his other musicals currently in development are IVANHOE (T.R.U. Musicals Festival Grand Prize Winner), TIME MACHINE 2.0 (Midtown Int'l Theatre Festival), FEEDING THE MACHINE and THE GREAT BRIDGE.
Mark spent his formative years deep in the heart of the NYC club scene, at various stages working a mop, working the bar or working the door. Starting at the age of 16, he was the first teen staffed at the legendary club - The Saint. He reveled in the irony of being an 18 year. old carding IDs at the door for the Tunnel in its heyday. Other hotspots whose employment inspired Mark's creative juices were Cat Club, Limelight, Webster Hall and many more...
The most recent album to have Mark's contribution is THE SPIRIT OF ISRAEL, a charity benefit CD released this past spring. It includes his song, co-written with lyricist Beth Mann, YERUSHALAYIM IR SHALOM (Jerusalem, city of peace), honoree of the 1996 Israel Song Festival.
Mark has recently become the top scorer EVER on FOX TV's "DON'T FORGET THE LYRICS", reinforcing his love of rock n roll. Today, Mark can be found spreading that love nightly at SWEET CAROLINE'S, New York's only rock n roll piano bar.
Elizabeth Lucas Director
Elizabeth Lucas made her feature directing debut with three feature-length genre movies about New York City: her rock movie musical, CLEAR BLUE TUESDAY, her teen slasher flick, RED HOOK, and her Sci-fi FADE TO WHITE. She's also made three shorts, including the multi-award-winning ISABELLA RICO, which appeared in 33 festivals worldwide and won Best Director and Special Achievement awards. A long-time stage director and a New York Musical Theatre Festival Founding Producer, Elizabeth has premiered a number of new musicals and directs regionally.
Mark Hartman is happy to work with Mark Weiser again after playing a reading of "Ivanhoe" at the 14th St. Y some years back. Broadway credits include "Avenue Q" (Associate Conductor), "Miss Saigon", and ”1776" (Roundabout). Off-Broadway: "Avenue Q" (Vineyard), "The Streets of New York", "The Hostage", "The Irish...and How They Got That Way" (all Irish Rep), "The Fantasticks". Regional: "The Streets of New York" (Westport Country Playhouse), "The Baker's Wife" (Goodspeed), "A Little Night Music", "Into The Woods", "Carousel". Concerts: "Finian's Rainbow" (w/ John Cullum, Melissa Errico, Denis O'Hare), "Neo" (York Theatre Benefit of new composers' work), and 12 staged concerts with Musicals Tonight! including "Watch Your Step", "That's the Ticket", and "Look Ma, I'm Dancing", cast recordings available on Original Cast Records. Mark is currently gearing up for a concert of "Children of Eden" with Norm Lewis, Michael Rupert, Julia Murney, Darius de Haas, Kate Schindle, and Max von Essen at Riverside Church December 1 to benefit the York Theatre and National AIDS Fund. He continues to develop "From This Day Forward", a new Stephen Schwartz review, with the Ergo Theatre Company.
